Did you think my fortified home and ample provisions meant I was entirely safe?
Far from it!
Signal jammers represented a critical vulnerability; in the hands of a murderer, they could isolate my fortress from the outside world.
Thus, I made a special trip to an outdoor store and secured two satellite phones, ready to call for help the moment I had the chance.
Most of my fear stemmed from a lack of firepower, an issue compounded by my location in the UK, where personal firearms aren't as accessible as in the US.
So, I prepared a variety of non-firearm defenses: a baseball bat, a katana, a scythe, a riot shield, a pitchfork, and a riot helmet, to be used only in dire circumstances.
But was that all?
No!
I also had to consider the possibility of a supernatural threat from my so-called friend.
I visited numerous churches, gathering ten boxes of holy water, a box of crucifixes, and an assortment of bibles and other sacred items.
Yet, if my adversary didn't conform to Western demonic archetypes, these items might prove ineffective.
So, I also amassed a variety of Eastern protective talismans: Japanese ofuda, prayer beads, Thai amulets, and even Hong Kong-style talismans, along with garlic, ensuring I was prepared for any spectral entity.
After ensuring the safety of all items with my detectors, I finally felt somewhat at ease.
I downloaded dozens of TV series and thousands of books onto my tablet, securing my mental sustenance.
With everything in place, I drew the curtains, laid down on my mattress, and drifted off to sleep for the afternoon.
As darkness fell, I was ready for whatever—or whoever—might come.
