All the words of reprimand and the outpouring of longing were swallowed by an impassioned, fervent kiss. Her body went limp, falling into the embrace of the "corpse," who was none other than the man she longed for day and night, Farrell, cleverly disguised.
Perhaps only someone like him could convincingly feign death, with his pallid complexion, dilated pupils, and the absence of pulse and heartbeat – a feat no ordinary person could achieve. This ruse was the only way to deceive the bureau's agents and have the police inadvertently deliver him right to his beloved.
After their intense kiss, playful bickering and accusations were inevitable.
"Where have you been these past two months!" She pounded on him, tears suspended in her eyes.
"I've come to you, haven't I?" Farrell's smile was tinged with his characteristic mischievous humor.
"Why only come to me now?" she asked, her voice filled with grievance.
"I needed time to recover. The bullet went through my heart, so it took longer. Luckily, it was a lead bullet. Had it contained even a trace of silver, I'd be done for."
At his words, her heart softened, and she gently touched the area over his heart.
"Are you okay now?" she asked tenderly.
"Don't worry, I wouldn't dare come to you if I wasn't sure." He lifted her chin to look into her face, noting her weight loss. "I missed you a lot."
"Me too." She nestled into his embrace, sharing her endless longing and love. The heart that had been suspended in mid-air for two months finally found its grounding.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps approached, alerting them.
"Florence, Florence, it's bad! Agent Wade is coming!" David burst in, his voice tense.
Florence's expression darkened. "What's he doing here?"
"I don't know, but he's upset that the police didn't inform him about the corpse delivery. He's coming to check himself. Toni's trying to stall him, but if he finds Farrell here, we're in trouble!"
Farrell stood up, ready to act, but Florence immediately sensed his intention.
"Don't you dare leave!" she commanded.
Farrell paused, frowning. "If I stay, I'll endanger you all."
"I don't want you to disappear again. Not even for a minute."
"Florence?" He hesitated, torn by his reluctance to leave her.
"Florence, Agent Wade is almost here!" David was now drenched in sweat, his anxiety palpable.
"Don't worry, I have a plan."
"What plan?" Both men asked in unison.
Florence, the forensic scientist, displayed her calm and rational demeanor, answering without a hint of panic.
"Keep pretending to be dead."
