Toni couldn't help but marvel at the spectacle before her. "Wow, talk about a power couple!"
David gave her a bewildered look. "Power couple? More like Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah."
"But don't you see? They argue because they care," Toni insisted, trying to find the silver lining in the heated exchange. "Florence only loses her cool like this when she's really worried about someone. And Farrell, risking a fiery demise to save her? If that's not touching, I don't know what is."
David's skepticism was palpable as he glanced around the room, noting its eerie decor and Farrell's unconventional resting place. "Touching? In this crypt-cum-bedroom? Their 'caring' looks more like a supernatural showdown to me."
Despite the unusual circumstances, it was clear that Florence and Farrell shared a deep, albeit unconventional, bond. Their fierce argument was just another expression of their mutual concern, a fact that was evident to everyone but themselves.
Seeking refuge from the ongoing battle, Toni suggested a game of poker in the living room, a proposal David readily accepted. Better to leave the lovebirds to their squabbling.
The duo's encounter with Farrell had transformed their perception of vampires, replacing fear with trust. Now, they were determined to ensure Florence's safety, even if it meant imposing a vampire bodyguard on her.
Florence found herself corralled by David and Toni's grave expressions as they shared an important decision.
"This is serious, Florence. No jokes," David asserted sternly. "This kidnapping attempt went beyond past threats. Someone means to kill you."
Toni nodded emphatically. "We think you should take extended leave, avoiding all cases while we take over."
"Impossible!" Florence objected.
"Desperate times call for desperate measures," David countered. "It's the only way."
"I could request 24/7 police protection," Florence stubbornly bargained.
Toni disagreed. "That's inadequate against determined assassins with limited manpower."
Their earnestness left Florence at a loss, her usual rebuttals falling flat against their united front. "But I can't just abandon my work!"
"Your life is more important than any case," David insisted, with Toni nodding in agreement. "And we all know Farrell is the best protection you could have."
