Chapter 6: Roleplay Gone Wrong
Lily woke up to the sound of Alex's voice, but it wasn't the gentle, loving tone she was used to. Instead, he sounded gruff, almost angry.
"Get up, woman," he growled, his eyes narrowing as he looked down at her. "Don't make me say it twice."
Lily blinked in confusion, her mind still hazy with sleep. She glanced at Alex, wondering if she was dreaming. He was dressed in a crisp suit, his hair slicked back like some sort of Wall Street tycoon.
"I'm not asking, I'm telling," Alex continued, his voice dripping with authority. "You work for me now."
It took Lily a moment to realize what was happening. Alex was role-playing, just like she had suggested. But instead of the suave, seductive character she had imagined, he seemed to be channeling the over-the-top dominance of a cheesy romance novel.
"I... I work for you?" Lily asked, trying to suppress a laugh. "What exactly is my job, sir?"
Alex's eyes widened, and for a second, Lily thought he might break character. But he quickly regained his composure, leaning in close.
"Your job is to do whatever I say," he whispered, his breath hot against her ear. "I'm the boss, and you're my secretary. Understand?"
Lily bit her lip, torn between amusement and exasperation. This wasn't quite what she had in mind when she suggested role-playing. She decided to play along, just to see where this would go.
"Yes, sir," she purred, batting her eyelashes. "I'm here to serve."
Throughout the day, Alex continued his dominant boss act, barking orders and making ridiculous demands. He even went so far as to spank Lily with a rolled-up newspaper when she brought him the wrong coffee.
"You've been a naughty girl," he growled, his hand resting on her hip. "I think you need to be punished."
Lily couldn't help it. She burst out laughing, doubling over with mirth. Alex looked confused, his character slipping.
"I'm sorry," Lily gasped, wiping tears from her eyes. "It's just... this is all so cliché! It's like you're reading from a bad romance novel."
Realization dawned on Lily as she recognized the lines and behaviors from the romance novels she had seen Alex studying. It became clear that he had taken her advice too literally and was now mimicking the fictional characters to the extreme.
Desperate to put an end to the charade, Lily quickly messaged Alex through their secret communication channel. "Alex, I forgot that the domineering CEO act is no longer welcomed. Please move on to the next archetype."
The next morning, Lily woke up to find Alex curled up beside her, his head resting on her shoulder and his arm draped across her waist. She smiled, enjoying the rare moment of closeness. However, as she tried to get up, Alex's grip tightened, and he let out a whimper.
"Don't go," he mumbled, nuzzling his face into her neck. "I need you."
Lily froze, surprised by Alex's uncharacteristic behavior. She gently tried to pry his arm off, but he only clung tighter, like a child afraid of being abandoned.
"Alex, honey, I need to get up," she said softly, stroking his hair. "I have things to do today."
"But I don't want you to leave," Alex pouted, his lower lip trembling. "Can't you stay with me? Just for a little while?"
Lily sighed, realizing that Alex was trying out the clingy puppy persona she had suggested. While it was endearing to see him so vulnerable, she knew she couldn't indulge him all day.
"Tell you what," she said, kissing his forehead. "If you let me get my work done, I promise we can cuddle all evening. Deal?"
Alex hesitated, but finally nodded, releasing his grip. "Okay. But hurry back, okay? I'll be waiting right here."
Lily couldn't help but laugh at his earnest expression. She gave him a quick peck on the lips before slipping out of bed, feeling a warmth in her chest at Alex's attempts to please her.
Later that day, Lily was working on her laptop when she felt a presence behind her. She turned to find Alex standing there, a tray of snacks and drinks in his hands.
"I thought you might be hungry," he said, setting the tray down beside her. "I made your favorite sandwich and got you some iced tea, just the way you like it."
Lily blinked in surprise, touched by Alex's thoughtfulness. "Thank you, honey. That's so sweet of you."
Alex beamed, looking proud of himself. "I just want to make sure you're taken care of. You work so hard, and I want to be there for you, always."
Lily felt a rush of affection for her husband. This gentle, loyal side of him was one she could definitely get used to.
As the day wore on, Alex continued to find little ways to show his devotion. He brought her flowers from the garden, offered to rub her feet when she looked tired, and even sang her silly love songs when she needed a break.
Lily couldn't stop smiling, feeling utterly charmed by Alex's playful, endearing antics. It was like falling in love with him all over again, seeing this new, carefree side of him.
That evening, as they cuddled on the couch, Lily decided to check in with her online persona. She sent Alex a message, curious to see how he felt about the day's roleplay.
"How did it go with the clingy puppy and gentle loyal dog personas?" she asked, trying to sound casual.
Alex's reply came quickly, and Lily could practically hear his excitement through the screen.
"It was amazing!" he typed, adding a string of heart emojis. "I never knew how good it could feel to just shower someone with affection like that. And seeing her smile, hearing her laugh... it made me feel so happy, so loved."
Lily felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. She had no idea that Alex had been so moved by the experience, that he had gained as much from it as she had.
"I'm so glad," she wrote back, her fingers trembling slightly. "It sounds like you two had a really special day together."
"We did," Alex replied. "And it's all thanks to you. Your advice, your guidance... it's brought us closer than ever before. I don't know how to thank you."
Lily swallowed hard, feeling a pang of guilt. She knew she should come clean, should tell Alex the truth about her online identity. But she was afraid, afraid of losing this newfound intimacy, this deeper connection they had forged.
"Just keep loving her," she typed, blinking back tears. "That's all the thanks I need."
As Lily set her phone down, she took a deep breath, trying to compose herself. She knew she couldn't keep up the charade forever, but for now, she just wanted to bask in the warmth of Alex's love, to cherish every moment of this sweet, silly, wonderful man she was lucky enough to call her own.
