"Yes, Lord Third. But an attempt failed recently, apparently interrupted by unknown rogue forces. Toneri himself was injured protecting his squad. Root recommended removing him as a priority target for now to conserve resources."

Hiruzen nodded, exhaling smoke contemplatively. "Very well, we shall keep observing for anomalies. But lifting village morale must take priority over tying loose ends."

Truly the wounds from Nine-Tails and Orochimaru's betrayal still bled the village dry of power and personnel. With enemy villages poised like vultures sensing weakness, Hiruzen found himself rapidly reassessing many decisions these days for Konoha’s uncertain future...

Toneri was walking through the village when he spotted a pregnant woman struggling with some groceries. He went over to help her carry the bags.

"Thank you so much," the woman said. "I'm Mikoto Uchiha. This little one is getting heavy to carry around." She patted her pregnant belly.

This was Sasuke and Itachi's mother. And based on the timing, Sasuke must be the one in her womb right now.

"I am the team leader with Itachi Uchiha. I happen to be visiting your home to see Itachi Uchiha. Let me walk you home," Toneri offered. "Wouldn't want you overexerting yourself."

Mikoto smiled gratefully and let Toneri help carry her groceries back to the Uchiha compound.
