In the aftermath of my high school exams, I found my father by the cliff and, in a desperate attempt to protect him, I killed the first scapegoat and concealed him at home. I meticulously cleaned every inch of our house to remove any trace of his fingerprints and DNA. Despite my efforts, the police discovered a single fingerprint, linking my father to a heinous crime from years past.

Fortuitously, in 1997, my father's DNA remained uncollected, with only my blood sample taken for future reference.

Anticipating the police's return after the fingerprint discovery, I procured my father's blood the night before. When the officers informed me of the match and the shocking truth the next day, I feigned the confusion and fear of a naive child. During the blood collection, the officers, focused on comforting me, didn't notice the swap I made with the sample card, discreetly replacing my blood with my father's.

This switch ensured that the DNA stored in the police database under my name was actually my father's.

In 2011, when the police found the skeletal remains, the DNA analysis was conducted. The bones belonged to my brother, and the DNA on file, believed to be mine, was my father's. With our mother deceased, the father-son DNA comparison confirmed a match, albeit with the roles of father and son reversed, allowing the case to be closed seamlessly.

The question remains: why did I switch the blood samples back then? Was I planning this elaborate ruse all along? Not exactly. My initial intent was simple; I knew my father couldn't hide forever and might reoffend. DNA is harder to conceal than fingerprints, and I anticipated the advancements in DNA technology would eventually link him to any future crimes. By substituting my blood for his, I prepared to take the blame if necessary, standing between my father and the law out of a twisted sense of loyalty and love.

In this convoluted web of deceit and sacrifice, I found myself playing the ultimate scapegoat, ready to bear the consequences of my father's past actions, driven by a complex blend of disillusionment and undying familial affection.
