The murderer quickly vanished from the surveillance feed.
I strolled around my apartment with the soda in hand, a hint of excitement bubbling within me.
Which entry point would he try first?
Regardless, none of his attempts would succeed, and that thought amused me greatly.
Noise emanated from the bathroom drain, prompting me to dash there immediately.
The drain clanged and rattled for a moment without any significant change. Frustrated, the murderer seemed to give the drain a final, angry thump before silence returned to the bathroom.
I sauntered out with my soda, unfazed. The apartment's drainage system had been a potential vulnerability, one I had addressed on my very first day here.
Next, the ceiling started making continuous noises, which, unsurprisingly, led to no success for the intruder.
Finally, I approached the window.
A rope dangled from above, with the murderer slowly descending. His expression turned cocky upon seeing me.
Through the bulletproof, soundproof glass, and against the backdrop of the falling rain, I could only guess his words by reading his lips.
"Wait for it."
Indeed, the murderer was skilled, managing to make a loud noise against my window while hanging mid-air. However, it was all for show; my window remained unscathed.
Unable to contain my amusement at his frustrated demeanor, I pointed and laughed heartily at him from the other side of the glass.
His face turned a deep shade of green. After staring at me for a moment, he pulled out a lighter and cracked an ugly smile, presumably expecting to see me panic.
But to his disappointment, my smile remained intact, even breaking into a belch.
Clutching the lighter, he attempted to climb up, but he froze midway, his expression locked in horror as if something terrifying loomed above.
Then, the rope slipped from his grasp, and he plummeted downwards. In the blink of an eye, the ground below was stained red with blood, diluted and spread by the rain.
I glanced down briefly before averting my gaze.
I had almost forgotten about my ghostly companion.
