Chapter 7: The Art of Academic Warfare

I accidentally overheard that Selena's magical cheating tools are only used on me. I knew that I couldn't let Selena get away with cheating forever. It was time to take action, to expose her for the fraud she really was.

I started by approaching one of my professors, a kind-hearted man named Dr. Harrington who had always been supportive of my academic efforts.

"Dr. Harrington, I need your help," I said, my voice low and urgent. "I have reason to believe that one of my classmates has been cheating on her exams."

Dr. Harrington's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Cheating? That's a serious accusation, Aurora. Do you have any proof?"

I took a deep breath, knowing that what I was about to say would sound crazy. "I know it sounds hard to believe, but Selena has been cheating all along, and it's been like magic cheating."

Dr. Harrington stared at me for a long moment, his expression unreadable. "Magic? Aurora, I know you've been under a lot of stress lately, but..."

"I know how it sounds," I interrupted, my voice rising with frustration. "But I'm telling the truth. And I can prove it, if you'll just give me a chance."

Dr. Harrington sighed, rubbing his temples with his fingertips. "Alright, Aurora. I'll tell you what. I'll administer a surprise exam in class next week. If Selena's grades suddenly drop, then I'll consider what you've told me. But if not, I expect you to drop this whole thing and focus on your own studies. Deal?"

I nodded, a sense of relief washing over me. "Deal. Thank you, Dr. Harrington. You won't regret this."

The following week, Dr. Harrington kept his word. He strode into class with a stack of exam papers, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"Alright, everyone, put away your books and take out a pencil. It's time for a pop quiz."

The class erupted in a chorus of groans and protests, but Dr. Harrington held up his hand for silence.

"Now, now, this is just a little something to keep you on your toes. You should all be prepared for anything, right?"

As he began to pass out the exams, I caught Selena's eye from across the room. She was smirking, her expression one of smug confidence.

I knew that she was planning to use her magic to cheat, just like she always did. But this time, I had a plan of my own.

As soon as I received my exam paper, I tore it up into tiny pieces, scattering them across my desk like confetti.

Dr. Harrington looked up in alarm, his eyes wide with shock. "Aurora, what on earth are you doing?"

I smiled, my voice calm and steady. "I'm sorry, Dr. Harrington, but I can't take this exam. It wouldn't be fair to the other students."

Selena's jaw dropped, her face turning a sickly shade of green. She knew that without my exam answers to copy, she was doomed.

When the exams were graded, both Selena and I received zeros. But while I had expected the low score, Selena was devastated. She had never received anything less than an A before, and the failure hit her like a ton of bricks.

From that day on, I made it my mission to disrupt every surprise exam that Dr. Harrington administered. I would either skip the exam entirely, or create a disturbance in class that made it impossible for Selena to concentrate.

One time, I showed up to class wearing a clown costume, complete with a red nose and a rainbow wig. I spent the entire exam period making balloon animals and telling jokes, much to the amusement of my classmates.

Dr. Harrington tried to maintain order, but it was no use. The exams were a complete farce, and Selena's grades began to plummet.

She went from being the "academic goddess" of our class to just another struggling student, her once-perfect GPA now a distant memory.

I watched with a sense of grim satisfaction as Selena's world crumbled around her. She had brought this upon herself, and now she was paying the price for her dishonesty.

But even as I reveled in my victory, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for my roommate.

I wondered what had driven her to such desperate measures, to cheat and lie and manipulate her way through life. Was it fear of failure? A need for validation? Or something deeper, something more primal?

I knew that I might never understand Selena's motivations, but I also knew that I couldn't let her actions go unchallenged. She had hurt me, and countless others, with her selfish behavior. And it was up to me to put a stop to it, once and for all.

As the semester drew to a close, I watched as Selena's once-bright future crumbled before her eyes. She had lost her scholarships, her internships, and her spot on the Dean's List.

Selena may have had magic on her side, but I had something far more powerful: the courage to stand up for what was right, no matter the cost. And that was a magic all my own.
