After the harrowing events of the past few nights, Leo Marshall found little solace in the company of others. His colleague, Jeff, had tried to offer comfort, suggesting he take some time off, but Leo's mind was a tumultuous sea of fear and confusion. "It's all just empty words," Leo snapped, pushing Jeff away, his breaths coming in sharp gasps. The familiar streets of his city, once a source of comfort, now seemed alien and threatening.

As Jeff's concerned face faded into the background, Leo's anger dissolved into exhaustion. He knew Jeff meant well; after all, he had been by his side since Leo's first day at the firm. But how could Jeff understand the terror that clung to Leo, the weight of knowing he was being hunted?

Dragging his feet towards his apartment, Leo's mind replayed the chilling events. The encounter with the police had left him more isolated than ever, their skepticism a clear sign that he was on his own in this nightmare. The city around him felt like a maze, each turn revealing darker corners and deeper fears.

When Leo reached the Road, he stopped, his gaze drawn to the street sign as if seeking answers. But there were none to be found, only the eerie silence of the early morning.

Suddenly, a weight crashed into him from behind, a force so unexpected that Leo stumbled forward, darkness engulfing him as a pair of hands covered his eyes. A manic laughter pierced the air, sending a wave of panic through his body.

As the hands withdrew, Leo turned to face his assailant, his heart racing. Before him stood a disheveled figure, a homeless man with a tangled beard and clothes pieced together from scraps. The man's face was a map of hardship, marked by bruises and a long scar that ran across his right eye, replaced by a glass bead, adding a surreal quality to his appearance.

Relief at the realization that it was just a homeless man quickly turned to anger, then to a profound sense of helplessness. What was the point of lashing out at a madman?

The homeless man's demands for money turned into a bizarre exchange as he rummaged through Leo's pockets, eventually discarding Leo's phone with a frustrated outburst about the lack of cash. Leo's frustration peaked as he watched his phone shatter on the ground, the last straw in a series of bewildering and terrifying encounters.

In a strange twist, the homeless man offered a battered old phone as compensation, a gesture that did little to quell Leo's turmoil but added another layer of absurdity to the situation.
