Leo found himself back in his sparse rental after being discharged, the space untouched and gathering dust. He didn't bother to clean, instead sitting quietly, lost in thought. The old beggar's warnings about the phone's toll on his health echoed in his mind, manifesting in rapid heartbeats, irritability, insomnia, and hair loss. The cost of using the device was becoming increasingly evident, and Leo feared he might end up as deranged as Jeff Carter.

Dwelling on the unresolved tragedies of Peach and his family, Leo realized his initial approach was flawed. He had believed the root of all misfortune was a single night's event, but now understood the true source of calamity was Jeff himself.

In the chilling embrace of a winter night in Chicago, Leo clutched his phone tightly, the device that had become his unlikely ally in this harrowing journey through time. With a resolute press of the 'confirm' button, he was whisked away once more.

The side effects of using the mysterious device were becoming increasingly severe, and as Leo stumbled forward, his heart pounded against his chest with alarming ferocity. The world around him seemed to blur and fade, the ringing in his ears drowning out all other sounds as he fought to keep his balance.

Suddenly, his ordeal was compounded by a violent attack. An unseen assailant shattered a beer bottle over his head, sending shards of glass slicing through his skin, one piece lodging itself horrifically in his right eye. The pain was excruciating, and Leo's screams echoed through the alley as he clutched his face, blood seeping through his fingers.

The gang of young thugs from a local Chicago gang, initially intent on merely intimidating another young man, were shocked by the unexpected turn of events. The sight of Leo, now a bloody figure on the ground, was enough to send them fleeing into the night, leaving behind their intended victim, who was paralyzed with fear and confusion.

As the young man, who had been the original target of the gang's bullying, realized what had happened, he cautiously approached Leo, torn between fear and a sense of obligation to the man who had inadvertently saved him. The sight of Leo's mangled face and the grotesque injury to his eye was enough to petrify him, yet he couldn't pull himself away.

Leo, writhing in agony, managed to ask about the identity of their attackers, to which the young man responded with a mix of fear and anger, vowing revenge against the bullies who tormented him, including one he recognized as a classmate.

In the midst of his suffering and confusion, Leo's attention was momentarily captured by the device that had led him to this moment — the phone that now lay beside him, its screen flickering ominously. However, his consciousness was fading fast, and before he could grasp the situation fully, he succumbed to the overwhelming pain and shock, slipping into unconsciousness.

The young man, known as Jeff, faced a moral dilemma as he eyed the device that had fallen from Leo's grasp. Torn between helping the injured man and the allure of the valuable item, he ultimately pocketed the device, rationalizing that it could be sold for a good price.

Just as Jeff was about to seek help, a drunken voice called out from across the street, berating him and demanding his return home. Startled and fearing further reprimand, Jeff hurriedly crossed the street, leaving Leo alone and unconscious in the alley, and the phone now in the hands of his future tormentor.

This twist of fate, with the device falling into young Jeff's hands, sets a new, possibly more ominous course for the future, as the cycle of violence and revenge finds a new beginning.
