Another morning dawned, the carriage heavy with the stench of blood.

Upon waking, I saw the second corpse in a month: Ponytail.

His neck had a gaping hole from a dinner knife, his windpipe and vocal cords severed, his right eye also wounded.

Blood pooled on the floor as attendants emotionlessly dragged the body out of the carriage and off the platform, then disinfected the area.

The stolen quilt now covered an elderly woman, her fingertips still stained with fresh blood.

Catching I's gaze, the old woman rolled her eyes at him.

"Did you see anything during your night watch?" I asked Emily, "Do you still think we're safe now?"

Emily quietly sipped her drink and said, "We're allies, which allows us to observe and defend effectively. We're still safe."

I scoffed and went back to catching up on sleep.

He didn't wake up until noon and was surprised to find only a serving of stir-fried pork on the table. "Where's my morning milk? Did you drink it?"

Emily looked serious and after a pause said, "There was no breakfast. You're right, they've started to cut back on supplies. They only delivered this lunch. And if I'm not wrong, there won't be any dinner either."

He pressed the service button a few times, calling over a steward to inquire, "So, no breakfast anymore?"

Emily remained silent.

The steward cautiously confirmed, "Yes, that's correct."

"And dinner?"

"...is also not available," she hurriedly added, "Sir, due to a shortage of supplies on board, we ask for your understanding. If you find it uncomfortable on the train, you can rest at the station."

After the steward left, I quickly ate while speaking to Emily, "We need to figure out a way off this train soon. If we don't get killed by someone, we'll starve to death. The cold burns too many calories; one meal a day isn't enough. "
